Multichrome Water Spotting

Some of my favorite nail polishes in my collection are my duo/multichromes. There's a magic in those color-shifting bottles that gets me every time. Of course, some of the best ones are ILNP. The range and strength of the color shifts are AMAZING! I was trying to think of something new to do with them and I realized that I hadn't done a water spotted design in quite some time. So I thought, why not try one out with an ILNP multichrome?

Recently, I've become a little bit obsessed with My Simple Little Pleasures YouTube channel. Colette posts these nail art tutorial videos and, oh, the things she can do with water marbles! Amazing. I've always just hoped for the best when I do a water marble but she has actual technique and knows how to coax some beautiful designs out of the polish. Thanks to her videos, I've decided to challenge myself to become better at water marbling. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to do an entire week of water marble designs. I've always loved water marbling so I'm excited. Also, with her tips and tricks, I'm hoping that it won't be quite so tedious a process and I'll have a lot more successes than failures!

Because I've been thinking about water marbling so much, but I don't want to start Water Marble Week until tomorrow, I chose another water based design for today. I went with some water spotting. I used both of my Anise colors for it because they're lovely and look great together.

I was at a loss for what do to for today's prompt. Hubby suggested, "...that thing where you spray alcohol in water and dip your finger in it!" Ha ha. So, water spotting it is! I thought this was an opportune time to use my newest Blurple, OPI Do You Have This Color in Stockholm.

It has been nearly a week since my last post but, after today, I should be posting almost daily again.

I have several manicures to show you today.

For this manicure, I only used two nail polishes. Wet n Wild Candy-licious and Wet n Wild Black Creme. Other than those polishes some dotting tools and striping tape, the only thing I used was some loose black glitter on my ring finger.

This is Julep Marion as a base color and stamping from BM-212 in Art Club Venice. The design looks a little bit like peacock feathers which works well with the teal and pink/purple metallic.

This is Julep Stefani topped with Butter London Knackered. Knackered is a fantastic duochrome that shifts between purpleish and greenish/teal shades. It's also loaded with holographic shimmer. I tried to capture the color shift, but my camera didn't agree with me. I did get a lot of the holo, though. This color is amazing.

For Trisha, we were inspired by a shirt she was wearing (which I should have taken a picture of). We started with Butter London Trustafarian and painted on a small floral design in OPI Live and Let Die.

Heather, who has been into bright and neon colors lately, wanted Funky Fingers Power Play with Sinful Colors Star Dust as an accent.

For this water spotting, I started with Julep Niecy and topped it with Julep Camille. Camille was the mystery color in Julep's spring mystery box. The spotting is done in Sally Hansen Blue Me Away.

Catching up

I know, I know, it's been way too long since my last post. I'm making up for it today, though. I have eight manicures to share with you. So this is going to be a long and picture heavy post. Let's do this.

For this, I used Sally Hansen Blue Me Away on every nail except my ring finger. For those, I used Kiss Nail Dress strips in Gown. I love these. They are super easy to apply. Just cut them to fit your nail, stick them on, and file off the excess. I was surprised at how well these stayed on. When I wanted to remove them, they peeled right off with no residue. 

 

This is Wet n Wild Pink-finity. With different sized dotting tools, I used Wet n Wild Black Creme, OPI Alpine Snow, and Sally Hansen Celeb City.

For this, I started with OPI Planks a Lot. I taped off stripes with striping tape and then used Cult Nails Time Traveler.

I wanted to try the "glue trick" for glitter nail polish. I painted a coat of glue on my ring finger and, while that dried, I did the rest of my nails. My pinky is OPI A Roll in the Hague. Middle finger is a gradient of ARitH and OPI That's Berry Daring. I used TBD on my index finger. On my thumb, I started with Sally Hansen Celeb City. I taped off different sized stripes using scotch tape and striping tape. For the stripes, I used both ARitH and TBD. Lastly, I used three coats of OPI Rainbow Connection. I love the way this turned out. Also, the "glue trick" works like a charm. When I was done wearing this manicure, the glitter peeled off without leaving a trace. Amazing.

This is OPI It's My Year with stamping done in Sally Hansen Silver Sweep. Sorry, I don't remember which Bundle Monster plate I used. I topped it all off with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

These are Heather's nails. She wanted a Union Jack accent nail. We started with a base of Cult Nails Time Traveler. On her ring fingers, I used Art Deco nail art polish in white and OPI Danke-shiny Red.

This is a cling wrap manicure I did using two Love & Beauty polishes. I borrowed them from Heather and she's had them so long that the names have worn off of the labels. I started with the blue color. It's a pretty blue with a gold shimmer. I let that dry and used the purple, I think It's called Dark Purple. I used cling wrap to get the marbled effect. I posted the picture of the polishes I used since I don't know the names.

I've finally gotten my water spotting technique down! I started with a gradient using OPI A Roll in the Hague and Funky Fingers Power Play. For the water Spotting, I used NYC French White Tip.

My original plan was to do an Alice in Wonderland themed manicure because we were going to watch that and Peter Pan last night. Well, Trisha couldn't make it so we didn't want to watch them without her. Instead, Heather, hubby, and I played a board game and watched something else. Of course, I also did Heather's nails.

Heather knew exactly what she wanted. I just delivered the goods, ha ha!

We used Cover Girl Pink-finity (Heather's new favorite, haha) on every nail other than her ring finger. There, we used Wet n Wild Black creme. For the hearts we used Pink-finity again and Wet n Wild Candy-licious. In typical Heather fashion, it's simple and girly. :)

Well, hubby wanted me to try a water spotted manicure. I tried. It's a really cool effect, when it works. I did one hand. I had one successful nail. I photographed only that nail. 

I started with a gradient of Sally Hansen Silver Sweep, Wet n Wild Candy-licious, and Wet n Wild Lavender Creme. For the water spotting, I used OPI Danke-Shiny Red. I love this look. I'm definitely going to need to practice this technique. Anyway, I took this picture, scrapped the entire manicure, and started over with something else. 

I stuck with Danke-Shiny Red and paired it with Sally Hansen Celeb City. Do these colors look fantastic together, or what? I really love this. It, for some reason, makes me think of Minnie Mouse. <3
