31DC2016 Day 4 - Green Nails

The prompt for the fourth day is green nails and, let me just say, I had such a difficult time coming up with an idea for a design. I just could not choose anything that I liked enough to do. Eventually, I decided to just keep it simple. I chose two colors and ended up doing an easy cling wrap marble.

Every once in a while I get in the mood for a very soft-looking manicure. But I'm usually also in the mood for something super quick and super easy because I'm SUPER lazy. This time around, I opted for some cling wrap marble in some very soft colors. I wanted something kinda opalescent.

One polish I received with my Julep Mystery Box a couple weeks ago was Tyra. Tyra is one of Julep's LE Metamorphic topcoats and I was very excited about it. There were three of them and each one leaned in a different color direction. Tyra was the pink-ish shade. It wasn't my first choice but being that it was a mystery box, I didn't know which one I was getting. Regardless of which one I was getting, I was excited. Well, I thought I'd finally give Tyra a try and see if it was as amazing as I hoped.

Punky Girly Marble

It's been about two weeks since I've posted anything and I feel terrible. So many things happened. To start, I had family from out of town staying with me for a few days over the holiday. I only get to see them once or twice a year so my focus was definitely not on my nails. And when I say that, I mean that I neglected my nails completely. They were in seriously rough shape by the time they left. On top of that, near the end of their visit, we had a pipe burst under our house, so we had no running water for a few days. 

Once family was gone and the pipe situation was taken care of, my nails were in need of some TLC. I wanted to get them back in shape before I posted any pictures for the public to see. I chopped them down, gave them lots of pampering for a few days, and now I think they're ready. They're short, but presentable. 

I didn't want to start posting Christmas designs yet. In my opinion, it's too early for that. I'm thinking maybe the twelve days leading up to Christmas. (Get it?!) Instead, I went with something girly but with a little edge.

31dc2014 Day 29 - Inspired by the Supernatural

I've been really excited about this prompt for a while now because I had decided quite early on what I was going to do. When I was brainstorming, I thought of all of the usual supernatural suspects (ghosts, vampires, werewolves, unicorns, mermaids, etc.). But I wanted to do something different. So, I chose a "supernatural" being from one of my (and hubby's) favorite shows, Game of Thrones. I picked White Walkers to base my design on. I know, I know, I was supposed to post this yesterday. I have a good excuse, though. A friend of mine, whom I haven't seen in months, was in town and spent the evening with us. Dinner, dessert, movies, and games occurred so there was no time for blogging. 

The prompt was blue and I already knew that I wanted to do a cling wrap marble. I've been trying not to use techniques that I will be using later in the challenge. I always want to default to polka dots or gradients. I want to keep it varied, though. So far, so good.

I started out doing this design wanting a simple cling wrap marble. After the fact, I decided that I had to add something to it. Of course, I chose polka dots. 

What a week!

This last week has been...something else. Honestly, it's been pretty rough. I had an allergic reaction last weekend to an unknown something. Then, at work I had a reaction to a chemical at work. I also had some car trouble that ended in unexpected expenses. I burned my left thumb at work. It wasn't the WORST burn I could have gotten. Just a minor second degree burn...ON MY CUTICLE! It's hideous. Luckily, it's just out of sight in my photos. Lastly, I had a major break which meant that I had to chop all of my nails down. :/

Today's mani is something quick and simple that I had to throw together out of necessity. Basically, my nails were naked and I was pressed for time. Ha ha!

Backed Up Halloween

I have been such a bad blogger this month! Ugh! I have been so busy. I have been doing my nails, though, and today I have three Halloween manicures to show you!

31DC2013 Day 18 - Half Moons

I had really high hopes for this manicure but it just didn't turn out quite as I had hoped. It isn't terrible, though, so I'm going with it!

I'm on Fire!

My friend is moving soon and, as a going away-type party, there's gonna be a bonfire later this week. I was trying to think of something to do with my nails today and I was inspired by fire. I thought a cling wrap marble with all of the colors that make us think fire would be fun!

I Love Marbling

There are a lot of nail art designs and techniques that I love to do. Marbling is way up there on that list and there are many different marbling techniques. I must say, though, that when I'm in a lazy mood (which happens quite often) but I still want an eye-catching manicure, cling wrap marbling is my favorite right now. It's super super simple and quick but it has such a unique finish!

I used all Funky Fingers colors for this because... well, because I'm a little obsessed with them. They don't have the best formula or application, but the colors are just killer. For the base of my marble, I used NYC French White Tip because my first color, Like Clockwork, is a neon yellow-orange. Once Like Clockwork had dried, I applied a thick coat of Aloha and used wadded up cling wrap to take off some of the color. Afterwards, I used the same cling wrap to dab on a little bit of Riot to add some contrast. Lastly, I slapped on some China Glaze Fairy Dust because I can. Ha ha. I just love that glitter and I want to put it on EVERYTHING!

Easter Marble

Since I already did my super Eastery design yesterday, I thought I'd just do something fun with some spring colors. I decided on a quick cling wrap marble.

I used Funky Fingers Cyclone Sky for the base color. I let that dry thoroughly and then added OPI Suzi and the Seven Dusseldorfs. I love these colors together. The pastel swirled with the jewel toned purple. It's light without being TOO airy. Also, I love cling wrap marbling because, if you take up too much or not enough of the second color, you can always dab more color on. 

By the way, don't mind my mishapen index finger nail. I had a nasty break and I just refuse to chop my nails down that short. So, I'll just deal with uneven nails.

Catching up

I know, I know, it's been way too long since my last post. I'm making up for it today, though. I have eight manicures to share with you. So this is going to be a long and picture heavy post. Let's do this.

For this, I used Sally Hansen Blue Me Away on every nail except my ring finger. For those, I used Kiss Nail Dress strips in Gown. I love these. They are super easy to apply. Just cut them to fit your nail, stick them on, and file off the excess. I was surprised at how well these stayed on. When I wanted to remove them, they peeled right off with no residue. 

 

This is Wet n Wild Pink-finity. With different sized dotting tools, I used Wet n Wild Black Creme, OPI Alpine Snow, and Sally Hansen Celeb City.

For this, I started with OPI Planks a Lot. I taped off stripes with striping tape and then used Cult Nails Time Traveler.

I wanted to try the "glue trick" for glitter nail polish. I painted a coat of glue on my ring finger and, while that dried, I did the rest of my nails. My pinky is OPI A Roll in the Hague. Middle finger is a gradient of ARitH and OPI That's Berry Daring. I used TBD on my index finger. On my thumb, I started with Sally Hansen Celeb City. I taped off different sized stripes using scotch tape and striping tape. For the stripes, I used both ARitH and TBD. Lastly, I used three coats of OPI Rainbow Connection. I love the way this turned out. Also, the "glue trick" works like a charm. When I was done wearing this manicure, the glitter peeled off without leaving a trace. Amazing.

This is OPI It's My Year with stamping done in Sally Hansen Silver Sweep. Sorry, I don't remember which Bundle Monster plate I used. I topped it all off with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

These are Heather's nails. She wanted a Union Jack accent nail. We started with a base of Cult Nails Time Traveler. On her ring fingers, I used Art Deco nail art polish in white and OPI Danke-shiny Red.

This is a cling wrap manicure I did using two Love & Beauty polishes. I borrowed them from Heather and she's had them so long that the names have worn off of the labels. I started with the blue color. It's a pretty blue with a gold shimmer. I let that dry and used the purple, I think It's called Dark Purple. I used cling wrap to get the marbled effect. I posted the picture of the polishes I used since I don't know the names.

I've finally gotten my water spotting technique down! I started with a gradient using OPI A Roll in the Hague and Funky Fingers Power Play. For the water Spotting, I used NYC French White Tip.
